FIVE local basketball coaches have successfully passed Model II course of the world basketball governing body, FIBA.
The course was conducted in Nairobi, Kenya this month and attracted 23 candidates.
Assistant Secretary General of the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Michael Maluwe named the referees as Evarist Mapunda, Leonard Kwale, Alfred Makoye, George Kitundu and Aime Maulid.
He said before attending the Model II course in Nairobi, the five coaches had already undergone a Model One course that was held in Dar es Salaam from late August to September. The course attracted some 29 participants.
“We are so pleased with the local coaches’ success. We hope they will use their expertise to help develop the sport in the country,” said Maluwe.
He said the course required candidates to pass practicals by at least 50 per cent. Other referees who attended the course in Nairobi were from Kenya and USA.
