Four women teams have confirmed participation in the Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball Association (RBA) league set to start in February next year.
Basketball Dar es Salaam (BD) managing director Mbaga Mwamboma named the teams as JKT Stars, Cargo Ladies, CMTU and Tanzania Prisons. Mwamboma said they were also expecting Lady Lion and Polisi to confirm their participations.
According to him, the women league would start after the men's league climaxes. Even as preparations are underway, Mwamboma disclosed that they were facing acute financial problems.
"We have been striving to attract sponsors, but none has come forward to support us, he said. The director added: "We are in a very difficult time, but we wont put the tournament off."
Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) has been dishing out plenty of cash to sponsor the RBA, but decided to end their support. Meanwhile, the BD would announce fixtures of the RBA men league today at the National Indoor Stadium.
The official said the league would comprise 14 teams that are Savio, JKT, Mgulani, Tanzania Prisons, Chui, Pazi, Vijana, Changombe United, Tan Blacks and Bias.
He disclosed that the reigning champions, JKT would open the league with the team, which would be picked later by the technical committee.
