APR Lions basketball club of Rwanda Thursday bow to the superiority of Petro Atletico basketball club of Angola in its last group-A game by 84-69 points and thus finish second in the group.
Petro had rallied to an early lead in the first quarter with a 25-17 points win but the Robert Thomson inspired Kigali-based APR side fought back in the second and third quarter with an 18-17 and 18-13 points win to enter the last quarter with a 57-53 points deficit.
Backed by a vociferous home fans APR resume the last quarter on a promising note curtailing the Angolan but Eduardo Mingas and his teammates withstood the offensive to win the quarter by 27-15 points for a final score-line of 84-69 points to top group-A.
Petro Mario Porter led the floor with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists, Curtis Terry recorded 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists while Mingas added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
APR Lions’ forward and motivator, Thomson led his teammates with a double double effort of 16 rebounds and 14 points while Cedric Isom contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds.
