WINDHOEK - As part of the resuscitation of basketball as a national sport in Namibia, the newly established Erongo Basketball Association (EBA) received a massive sponsorship of basketball equipment from Tunacor Fisheries Limited valued at N$100 000.00 last weekend.
Present to receive the equipment on behalf of the communities and NBF was Walvis Bay mayor Uilika Nambahu and NBF interim president Ndeulipula Hamutumwa.
The equipment, shipped in from Spain, consists of state of the art NBA-standard products.
With these structures in place, Namibia will be amongst the top countries in Africa able to host FIBA Afrique Continental Championships and other major events such as the All Africa Games.
In this regard, the NBF will actively pursue making Namibia a prime destination for such continental competitions.
The NBF’s interim committee recently facilitated the election of a new Erongo Basketball Association (EBA) and the formation of the Kavango Basketball Associations (KABA).
The new leadership at the EBA comprises Rivalda Kahatjipara (president), to be deputized by Simon Petrus Kamatoto (secretary-general), Tommy Imbili (treasurer), Manolito Carballo (development officer) and Vonny Booysen (NSSU representative).
At KABA, the leadership committee is made up of John Simbungu (president), Judy Judge (secretary-general), Mechitilde Mupiri (treasurer) and Costa Dastaquen (development officer).
