Cliff Owour, the head coach of APR basketball club, the Indomitable Lions has praised his players’ effort, which saw them take third place in the just concluded Fifa Africa Club Championship in Kigali.
“We were just realistic about the competition. We did the best. I knew the kind of challenge we were going face and the players responded accordingly,” said Owour.
The Kenyan train, 32 had earlier before the tournament predicted his team would finish third, and indeed his prediction became a reality as APR beat DR Congo champions Mazembe 92-80 in the third place playoff.
“I knew Angolan teams were going to dominate and after them, it was us to battle with the rest for the third place and we managed to achieve it.”
The former Kenyan international believes that we good sponsors and better preparations, his indomitable lions have the potential to contest the final of the next championship in Morocco.
Defending champions Primeiro de Agosto beat Luanda archrivals Petro Atletico 88-64 to win their second consecutive continental title.
Third place for APR meant that the Rwandan champions moved five slots up on the African ranks having finished eighth last year in Tunisia and ninth a year before in Angola.
