KENYA : Lions and KPA so close to retaining their league titles

The curtain falls on the 2009 national basketball league this weekend with three make-or-break play-offs final Game Two matches at the Nyayo Stadium.

On Saturday, men and women’s defending champions KCB Lions and KPA are expected to break into celebration songs by retaining their titles on a 2-0 run.

KCB Lions will host KPA with one game up after having won the best-of-three series final opener 77-67 at the KPA Makande gymnasium in Mombasa last weekend.

The dockwomen handed their rivals, Eagle Wings, a 70-56 beating in their Mombasa backyard and will also be out to wind up the series 2-0.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology cannot afford to be left out of the celebration party today. The varsity students will go flat out to send their hosts, Blazers, packing 2-0.

Newcomers Queens

The confident MMUST rocked Blazers 95-65 in Kakamega last weekend to enhance their chances of winning the men’s Division One league title on their first attempt.

In the semi-finals, KPA easily bundled out Strathmore Universty 2-0 while Eagle Wings showed newcomers Eastern Queens the door 2-0. MMUST registered a 2-0 win against Parklands Baptist in the semis to book a ticket to their first ever play-off final.

KCB Lions and KPA women’s team will be seeking a 2-0 sweep to win the crown for the third time in a row.
