KENYA : Over 50 youngsters put through their paces in a five day clinic

Over fifty youngsters attended a basketball clinic conducted by some of the country's top coaches at the Nairobi Railways Club.

It was action galore for the boys and girls who were extremely exited at the opportunity to learn the trade of the game at such a tender age and to be handled by premier league coaches.

At the end of the function closed by the Commissioner for Sports Gordon Oluoch, the youngsters assured that they will turn up in large numbers next to continue to develop their talents.

Oluoch in his final address to the coaches said that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will work with anybody who is ready to promote sports for the children.

He noted that children are the future of any sport and represent continuity and can not therefore be ignored as the future lies in their development.The was course organised by International Sports Academy of Kenya (ISAK) and Eagle Wings.

He commended the coaches for their dedication to develop talent at a tender age and urged them to continue doing so in future.The course was conducted by ten local coaches and was opened by Isaac Kalua, ceo Green Africa Network.

"Putting kids active is part of my work and the Ministry will be working closely with the you to promote this kind of programme in future." Oluoch said adding that he would like to see alot more of these clinics in future.

He said that he will look at he expenses and see how the Ministry can come in to make the excercise a success next year. He also urged the organisers to take the next clinic to the kids in the estates and if need be even outside Nairobi.

Oluoch said he decried lack of programme and training for the youth and noted that this was a move in the right direction. The programme that also included swimming closed with a tree planting session at Karura forest.

"I am impressed with the turn out. We can go on to build a better programme next year and this time we will even start early." said Agina Wesonga, ISAK director.
