APR roared to their second successive win at this year’s Fiba-Africa Club Championship after thrashing a physical Kano Pillars’ side last evening.

Spurred on by the home crowd, the indomitable lions came off 92-79 winners against their Nigerian opponents to maintain their 100 per cent record at the competition.

Mathew Miller (23points) and Robert Thomson (22points) were the architects of the win while Cedric Isom, who did not have a great game by his standards weighed in 14 points and four assists.

After the game, the Nigerians were full of praise for Thomson. “Just when we looked like coming back in it, he hurt us with a series of three pointers,” conceded Kano Pillars’ forward Ahmed Yusuf.

For APR’s head coach Cliff Owuor, it was a great response from his team, which lost twice to the Nigerians during last year’s edition held in Tunisia.

“Credit to the guys because last year we lost twice against the same team,” the Kenyan coach noted.

Meanwhile, defending champions Primeiro de Agosto made light work of Benin’s ASPAC after a 119-77 victory in Group B. It was their second win of the event having thrashed Congo Brazzaville’s Inter-club 115-74 on day one (Sunday).
