Two Angolan sides Petro Atletico basketball club and defending champion of the FIBA Africa Champions Club for Men starting in Kigali, Rwanda this weekend will witness the race for the coveted trophy between these two Angolan sides that have dominated African club competition in the last five years.
The rivalry which saw Petro snatching the title at the expense of their Luanda, Angola neighbour, Agosto in Lagos, Nigeria in 2006 with both sides enjoying the presence of a good numbers of the Angolan national team on parade.
It was the turn of Agosto to take the title in 2007 on home soil and repeated the feat in 2008 in Tunisia but the last victory by Agosto was without their arch rival, Petro who could not make it to the final round from the FIBA Africa Zone-IV qualifiers.
With Petro drawn in group-A alongside host A.P.R basketball club of Rwanda, Nigeria Kano Pillars, Kenya Ports Authority and ASB Mazembe of Democratic Republic of Congo
Leading the challenge in group-B is the defending champion, Primero de Agosto of Angola, Warriors of Uganda, ASPAC of Benin Republic, Cooperative Bank of Kenya and Interclub of Congo Brazzaville completing the group in the draw made last weekend at the Secretariat of Africa basketball ruling body, FIBA Africa.
Action starts on Sunday through December 22
