Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology returned home heros after registering two consecutive victories in the men’s basketball Division One league matches at the Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium at the weekend.
On Sunday, the Kakamega-based students winded up their two match tour of Nairobi with a 72-51 win over hosts Kenya College of Accountancy University.
On Saturday, the Western Province representatives had started off their hot campaign by beating experienced Parklands Baptist 87-79.
In other matches at the same venue, International Christian Centre remained on fire beating Co-operative Bank 78-72, Flames of the USIU-A defeated Mennonites 69-33, Mennonites men’s team rocked World Hope 76-69 while Eastern Queens had nothing to stop them demolishing Yana 67-36 at the Kenya Methodist University in Meru.

On Sunday, MMUST, who are participating in the top league for the first time, had Kenneth Wena and Alex Lugasi going down into early business to score.
Although KCA refused to go down with Victor Okello and George Odiko trying to cancell the scores, the students led 15-13 in the first quarter.
Jeremy Kwendo and Felix Omondi resisted the students aggressive moves to shoot KCA up 20-14 in the first quarter. MMUST trailed 33-29 at half-time but later played under coach-player Fredrick Osore’s instructions to lead 24-12 and 19-6 in the last two quarters.
Martin Kitonga scored game-high 24 points,captain Wena shot 15 while Kwendo replied with 12 for the losers.After collecting four points, MMUST are now placed second on the table standings with 10 points.
They are unbeaten record in five matches. Ernest Tuiga, the MMUST games and sports tutor said the students are well motivated to qualify for the post-season play-offs on their first attempt.
ICC maintained their good first leg record when they beat Co-op Bank 78-72 after leading 45-39 at half-time. Co-op Bank, who have formed a bad habit of loosing matches carelessly, had started off well by containing ICC to a 20-20 first quarter tie.
Griffins Ligare, was again a big threat scoring 23 points and James Omune 15 for ICC, who lie second behind KCB Lions on the table standings with 11 points. ICC have played six matches, won five and lost one. Lions are top on the nine-team standings with 12 points and hold the unbeaten record.
In Meru, Eastern Queens clobbered visiting Yana from Nairobi 67-36 in the first ever league match to be hosted at KEMU. Queens, who recruited top players before the formation of the new team, led 34-19 at half-time.Yana made little effort to catch up.
Queens are placed second on the league standings with eight points after winning all their four matches. Sprite Storms are a head with nine points from three wins and three loses.
Barbara Kithinji shot 20 points while Linda Sirma added 16 to help Flames of the USIU-A beat Mennonites 69-33. Mennonites were down 34-23 at the breather with Moni Beryl scoring 15 points.
