Egypt U19 and Iran U19 had a fabulous game between each other and could only find out about the winner in overtime. Egypt used 11-7 to seal a 95:91 victory.
Two teams did not show their best in the opener of the competition, however were too good today in the court. The first quarter was the repetition before the battle as the teams ended it up at 19:19. A powerful 28 point second period from the Asian champions enabled them to take a 47:38 lead into half time. Moreover, Iran added 201-9 in the third period to have 10 points deficit before the last period.
An incredible 27-17 fourth quarter from Egypt saw the game forced into overtime at 84:84. In overtime Egypt was too good for the opponent and grabbed the necessary victory.
Amro Sherif (192-G-91) was unstoppable with 30 points and 13 rebounds. Oraby nailed 19, while Osama Mohamed netted 13. Emad Salmani (188-G-90) produced 24 points for the Asian side and Arsalan Kazemi (202-F-90) collected massive 17 points and 18 rebounds.
Egypt had 19 steals versus 13 from Iran as well as more fouls. Iran looked better in both offensive and defensive rebounds, however made more turnovers.
The African champions now face the USA on Saturday, but even defeat will see them qualify for the second round unless Iran can defeat France.
