TODAY’S MTN-FUBA ladies clash between the KCC Leopards and Amazon Rhinos will likely end in the embarrassing manner of previous meetings between the top and low table clubs this season.

Matches between the two unequal classes have ended up in massive blowouts, an indictment on the ladies league and a case for splitting it into two tiers.

In eight matches between the top and bottom clubs, the winning margin has been at least 72 points. The nadir came on June 7 when the Makerere Sparks beat the Amazon Rhinos 132-13. The Leopards themselves thumped Makerere Cubs 139-32 on June 14.

With Amazon having lost all their matches this season and the Leopards only one of their nine games, the outcome of today’s meeting could set a new low for the ladies league. Local governing body FUBA admit something has to be done.
“We know there is a problem and we are planning to establish a women’s second division,” said FUBA technical committee secretary Joseph Manano.
Until then, big clubs like the Leopards can only beat who is put in front of them.

It is just as well that the men’s division two match is between the top two sides in that league. The Heaters are top the table with 15 points from eight games, the same number that Berkley have from as many matches.

They are only separated by points average and there could be no better reflection of how evenly-matched these two sides are. The two clubs are heads and shoulders above the rest but today’s fixture might provide a hint of who is really the best.
