Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (Fuba) expects a huge turn-up for the Africa Zone 5 Championships getting underway July 27 in Kampala.
Among the countries that have confirmed participation, is the war-ravaged Somalia, which is sending two teams. “They (Somalis) have already booked their flight and are working on the visas,” Fuba assistant general secretary Joseph Manano told Daily Monitor yesterday.
The Somali representatives, Heagen (men and women), will be joined in the week-long tournament by 14 other teams from the region. “All countries are very eager to come to Kampala,” Manano stressed although expressing concerns over the lack of an indoor venue.
Ethiopia will be sending men’s side Tasty and Ethio Waters for women, Sudan has confirmed the participation of Bilpam Warriors (men) while Rwanda is to be represented by Marine (men) and APR (women).
Representing Tanzania will be ABC (men) and JKT (women), Burundi is bringing New Stars (men) and Berco Stars (women).
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Eagle Wings are the women’s sides from Kenya and will be escorted by KBC and KPA (men).
