IT is so hard to imagine that KIU are last at this stage of the MTN-FUBA men’s first division, having been top at the same time last year.
It is a different story this time round with the side having lost six of their first seven league matches this season.
KIU are consequently below KCC Lions in the standings ahead of the two sides match as the end the league first round comes to a close.
KIU are in real danger, and we are not talking about missing the Playoffs here. At this stage, thinking about the post season would be a risky venture into daydreaming. KIU’s entire focus should be about fighting relegation. It is that bad although everyone really expects a team of their quality to ultimately stay up.
Yet if KIU’s current predicament seems unbelievable, consider their coach’s vow for the rest of the campaign.
“I’m not planning on losing any other game from now on,” Nimrod Kaboha declared with great modesty.
“I can assure you that I’m not going to lose in the second round,” he said, making the kind of decree which really has one response –– “we’ll see”.
A win would move KIU two places out of the relegation zone.
Division two matches will also be held today.
