For the third time in just five games, champions DMark Power had to bank on exploding in the final two quarters to dispatch UCU Canons 96-91 in a pulsating MTN-Fuba National Basketball League clash at YMCA Court, Wandegeya on Friday night.
Having scrapped past Knight Riders and Miracle Eagles over the past week in an unconvincing fashion, coach Brian Wathum’s side kissed the canvas at halftime (trailing 32-46) against Canons before coasting home in style in the final two quarters.
Power record signing and skipper Norman Blick - worth Shs20m - scored a game-high 28 points, 15 of which came in the penultimate two quarters including three straight three-pointers, to excavate his side from a ditch.
Steven Mwesigye (25 points), Ivan Enabu (19) and Robert Mugabe (19) had almost propelled the Mukono-based University side to victory before running out of steam as their lead wilted to a meager four points going into the last quarter.
“Every team is more prepared when they play against us. We would love to build huge leads early but playing well towards the end matters more,” said Afidra (19 points) after Power maintained their unbeaten start with a sixth win.
