Teams from Burundi and Tanzania are the only ones yet to confirm participation in the Zone Five East and Central Africa Club championships set for Uganda, officials disclosed yesterday.
Vitalis Gode, Zonal secretary yesterday confirmed that a total of 16 teams from Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia and host Uganda will take part in the show slated to throw off at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium for Kampala, Uganda from July 27 to August 2.
Uganda will have six teams, three in each category. Uganda will have Falcons, Warriors and D Mark (men), Kampala City Council (KCC), UCU and Lady Canons in the women category. Marine and APR women will represent Rwanda.
Kenya will be represented by national champions Kenya Commercial Bank of Kenya Lions and KPA in the men category. KPA women who are defending champions and also Kenya national queens will have compatriots Eagle Wing.
Sudan will send teams for the first time and they have nominated Bilpam Warriors while Somalia will have Heagem men and women teams to carry their flag. Burundi and Tanzania are the only nations yet to name their sides.
The top two sides in each category will latter represent the region in the FIBA Africa club championships. APR men, who are the defending champions, have not entered an team as they have a direct ticket to the Africa club championships as host club.
