PLS HAWKS have prepared for their top-of-the-table clash with champions Baya this coming weekend with a convincing win over title hopefuls MBU Rockers.
‘Oye’ scored 27 points in Hawks’ win over the RockersCentre Neddy ‘Oye’ Fanchette paced the former champs with 27 points, including three 3-pointers all of which came in the fourth quarter, in their 92-62 victory on Saturday at Victoria Gymnasium.
Veteran power forward Jim Domingue added 15 points, international centre Rodney Lozé 12 and playmaker Christopher ‘Toto’ Camille 11 as the Hawks won all four quarters – 22-14, 22-14, 17-14 and 31-20 – for their sixth consecutive victory and a maximum 12 points.
Playmaker Nigel Sinon (17 points) and Cyril Agrippine (13) combined for 30 of the 62 points scored by the Rockers in their second loss in nine games for 16 points.
Angels added to Praslin Warriors’ woes by inflicting a seventh successive defeat on a 79-72 score.
The Warriors led 19-15 at the end of the first quarter and 37-34 at half-time, but Angels used a big 28-17 third-quarter performance when Daniel Dodin scored 12 of his team-high 22 points to take a winning option.
David Boniface made a 17-point contribution in Angels’ fourth win in eight games, while playmaker Jackson Auguste had the hot hands, once again, for the Warriors with a game-high 26 points.
Nigerian Alao Solomon finished with 20 points, captain and international power forward Dominic Pillay added 14, and Nigerian centre Simon Pusam got 10 as Premium Cobras steamrollered Mont Fleuri Dawgz 72-33.
It was the Cobras’ fourth victory in seven games for 11 points, while the Dawgz have only two wins in eight outings for 10 points.
Only captain Reggie Ah-Kong scored in double figures – 10 points – for last year’s division two champions Dawgz.
Cascade Bullets stayed in the top half of the 10-team top-flight standings with 14 points after a close 64-62 victory over Beau Vallon Heat.
In the men’s bottom division, AAP Brothers edged Drifters 68-67, Juniors beat Pointe Larue Falcons 81-62 and RA Herons defeated LMS Youth 54-44.
