Bigwig of the Nigeria Basketball Federation Monday described its meeting with the management of the sponsor of the nation’s women league, Zenith Bank Plc as very fruitful.
The Monday meeting is the first phase of the numerous activities lined up towards the first jump-ball of the 2009 Zenith Bank Women league starting July 2 in Kaduna.
First Vice-President of the Nigeria federation, Muktar Khaleh who led the NBBF delegation to the meeting told our correspondent that the meeting came at the right time.
Khaleh who is also the President of FIBA Africa Zone-III says the meeting has been able to achieve a lot thus justifying the postponement of the first phase of the league by one week.
He reassures teams in the league of full participation of the sponsor when hostilities began with ten teams campaigning for honours.
The NBBF has fixed arrival date for all participants in the Kaduna leg of the league for next Tuesday this will be followed by mandatory pre-match meeting a day after while the first jump-ball holds Thursday, July 2 at the new sports hall at Murtala Square.
Among the team teams that are expected to jostle for the league title includes First Deepwater basketball club of Lagos who acquire the right of Amazons basketball club. Others are defending champion, First Bank basketball club, Dolphins, Sunshine Angels of Akure, Delta Force of Asaba, AHIP of Kano, Nigeria Immigration of Kano, Plateau Rocks among others.
