JKT will represent the country in the East and Central African Basketball Championship slated for July in Kampala, Uganda.
Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) secretary general Lawrence Cheyo, commended JKT for clinching the National Basketball League (NBL) recently.
"They were outstanding in the just ended national tournamentthey deserve compliments. I wish them success in the upcoming event," Cheyo said.
He added: "They fought hard to win the title and I believe they will keep up their fighting spirit to land the regional title.
The team's confirmation to compete in Uganda is a relief to basketball enthusiasts after failing to field a team in the last year's championship.
The flag bearers won a chance to show their prowess in the region after dethroning fierce rivals ABC in a closely fought match held in Mwanza.
JKTs victory means ABC have no place in the regional event, but instead will contend for the Union league that will bring together the Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar teams.
The champions withdrew from the NBL championship last year due to acute financial constraints.
JKT will have a tough task to prove that their NBL triumph was no fluke as they meet the host Uganda, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Somalia, Seychelles, Eritrea, Somalia and Djibouti.
The recently ended NBL was marred by poor participation of teams. Several highflying teams pulled out after failing to travel to Mwanza.
