Even after seeing Kampala International University (KIU) devour Falcons last week, DMark Power technical director Peter Mubanda is unbothered by the challenge posed by the university side.
Mubanda’s charges take on KIU in an MTN-Fuba League match tonight confident of stretching their unbeaten run to 14 games. “We respect KIU but we don’t fear them at all,” Mubanda stated yesterday.
KIU, currently pushing for a play-offs slot, stifled Falcons 59-45 last Saturday and victory over defending champions Power would help them maintain firm grip on fourth position. But Mubanda doesn’t give them any chance against his side.
“They can’t even come close to beating us,” he said. Michael Karuiki has lately shown good form and for KIU to win, they will need the centre player to put on a top drawer performance against his former team. “Karuiki is a threat but we know how to handle him. He was once part of our team and we shall contain him,” Mubanda promised.
KIU have played 14 games, losing seven of them and occupy fifth position alongside Miracle Eagles, who also take on the depleted Falcons in an earlier fixture. Falcons are still without Henry Malinga (knee injury) and Stephen Omony (ankle), which presents Miracle their best chance of beating the record champions. Falcons’ patron John Ssimbwa is, however, optimistic they can cope without the injured duo.
