MAD ’09 Afrobasket Women: Nigerian compound Tunisia woes win, 65-49

Antananarivo (FIBA Africa Championship for Women) – Nigeria Sunday continue her winning ways with a 65-49 points victory over Tunisia who has now lost three straight games in group-B.

Both sides started the game on a high tempo with Nigeria going ahead to pick the first quarter by 26-23 points only for the Tunisian to go to sleep giving the Nigerian the opportunity to purnish then for being so casual with the second ending 20-08 points in favour of Nigeria for a halftime score-line of 46-31 points.

Nigeria further extend the lead in the third quarter with guard Funmilayo Ojelabi combining beautifully for her forwards of Charity Egenti, Rashidat Sadiq and skipper of the side Mfon Udoka to stop the Tunisian foray after both sides decides to fall back on defense play, Nigeria won the quarter by 10-07 points to go into the last quarter with a 56-38 points advantage.

Effort by the Tunisian to come back into the game in the last quarter met a stiff opposition from the Nigerian who would rather hold on to their pride than allow the Tunisia spring a surprise with the North African running away with a slim 11-09 points win in the quarter to go down by 65-49 points for an unimpressive record of 0-3.

Nigeria forward, Rashidat Sadiq led the floor with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists while teammate captain and former Africa queen of the court, Mfon Udoka recorded a double double of 12 rebounds, 10 points and 3 assists, Charity Egenti continued from where she left off on Saturday with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assist while guard, Funmilayo Ojelabi contributed 13 points, 3 rebound, 3 assists and 2 steal.
