KENYA : Co-op humuliated in Mombasa as Lomboritz shock USIU again

Ports Authority (KPA) humiliated Co-operative Bank of Kenya 86-65 in a one sided premier league clash at Makande Welfare Hall in Mombasa on Saturday.

In this top tie, it was the porters who cruised to a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Co-op went a gear ahead in the high scoring second with 33-29 cushion. At the end of the third, the scores stood at 65-43 for KPA before the regional champions squeezed a close 22-21 advantage in the last one.

It was Furaha brothers who dominated this show. Furaha and Musa for KPA and their younger sibling Salim Ali who plays for Co-op. KPA had from 16 points each from Furaha and Musa, 13 from Dan Okwiri and 10 from Patrick Kirui KPA are tipped to finish top of the table.

Co-op, who have now lost seven matches were lifted by Richard Osano who shot game high 26 points but it it was too little too late to save the bankers blushes. Last week Co-op lost 74-82 to Posta and must continue to work hard for good finish before the play offs.

National champions KCB Lions beat University of Nairobi "Terrorists" 72-54. Lions, led 34-21 at half time and with Tobias Onyango and Yoni Wanambiro had it easy all the way as they terrorising the campus lads at will.

Onyango scored 26 points while Wanambiro, who is now based outside the city showed up and did not dissapoint, he provided 13. UoN had 13 from Sammy Kiria and 12 fro Bryan Obimbo.

Andrew Gatembo fired in two late three pointers as Lomboritz clawed back to complete a double over United States International University (USIU) with a close 77-75 win. The winners led for most of the time until late as the students carried a six point edge.

Lomboritz led 42-32 at half time but were pegged down late in the show as Tigers took the lead building as many as six points in the last three minutes. But with 1:14 minutes to play, Gatembo three had the scores 70-71 he soon hit another one for a 73-73 tie.

Two free shots by Melvin Oketch and one by Dennis Chute gave Lomboritz a deserved win as USIU took to fouling. Gatembo had 14 points and Felix Omondi scored 16. USIU had 17 from Chris Mulumba and 16 from Papillon Odhiambo.

Strathmore lost their last game of the season when they fell 65-79 to rising United States International University (USIU). Tigers trailed 31-32 at half time before racing away in the last. Chris Muluna continues to show they way with 17 points and Arou Chan added 16. For Blades, Paul Nyakinda shot 13 and David Ogolla 16.

Veteran Emilly Ongoro for once showed her true colours leading Eastern Queens to a big 79-34 win in the women's match. Hilda Inadsi also scored 14 points for leaders Queens. Swords main scorer was Grace Wanjiru who nailed 10.

It was a sad day for USIU as Flames also lost 50-49 to Sprite Storms in the ladies premier clash. Angela Luchivya was good for 17 points while the losers had 15 from Linda Sirma. Both teams had tied 21-21 at the breather.

Strathmore University shocked Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University 49-48. Swords were up 25-19 at half time with Grace Wanjiru and Faith Owich each scoring 16 and 14 points respectively. Evaline Adhiambo hit 14 and Lucy Machuma had 13 for KCA.

Nairobi Pentecostal Church (NPC) pelted Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 74-34 while Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University beat World Hope 69-54 in another lower division match.

In the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) play off matches at Railways Club, Friends of Basketball (FOB) were shut out by Emyba who beat them 80-69. Ken Ondiek scored play off high of 32 points. James Achega replied with 23 for FOB.

Trailblazers tossed out Old Pirates 73-50 behind 24 points from Dennis Oyaro. Mutinda Muia bagged 12 for Pirates who also bowed out 2-0 in the two leg series. Nairobi Aviation (NAC) also send Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) packing with a 74-48 thumping.

Brandon Ouma had 16 points. KAA had 17 from Kevin Otieno. In another game, Kenya Polytechnic University rocked Baraka Xtreme 68-46 as Lawrence Wandera managed 12 points. Peter Kimani led the losers with 18.

In Game One ties, Trailblazers beat Old Pirates 65-41 behind Dennis Oyaro 8 points and Steve Okwako's 14. Mwazhige Mshila nailed the losers 16. Emyba stunned FOB 60-55 as free shooting Ondiek making 24 points and Collins Ochilo adding

Dangerman Joseph Achega had a cold game for FOB who had 16 from Caesar Mungai and 11 from Zico Kadir. NAC beat KAA 60-52. Alvin Mbaluka led the way with 19 and Paul Macharia 18, The losers had 22 from Kevin Otieno and 10 from Nic Muli.

Regular season runner up Kenya Polytechnic University won 47-28 against Baraka Xtreme with Lameck Wandera hitting 10 points George Onassis made similar number for the losers who played a poor game.

In the women semis, Safe Spaces and Kenya Polytechnic took a 2-0 series with respective wins over World Hope and Predators. Florence Mbithe scored 21 points and Peninah Nthenya shot 18 as Spaces whipped Word Hope 64-35.

Euphracia Kageha bagged 16 points to spur Kenya Polytechnic to a close 46-45 win over Predators who missed key players Wilkister Oduor and Winnie Kanani. Dorothy Ouko scored the teams 11

In Game One matches, Safe Spaces blanked World Hope 48-22 in the ladies semi finals. Penina Nthenya and Florence Mbithe shot 14 and 16 points respectively. Georgette Nduta poted 10 for the losers.

The other semis saw Predators crushed 27-44 to Kenya Polytechnic University who had Kageha on fire nailing 22 points.
