MTN-Fuba League record champions Falcons are well aware of the role fans play in the game. Especially at this stage of the season (play-offs), every team needs a weighty fans’ backing to have a sniff on the trophy.

The Mountain Dew-sponsored Falcons, chasing their seventh trophy, take on Warriors in the best-of-five semifinals starting Saturday. Before that however, John Ssimbwa’s side, have started a project to promote the game in universities.

In collaboration with Crown Beverages, Falcons have organissed a one-day tournament due Saturday at Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono. Makerere, Kyambogo, UCU, Ndejje and Mubs will take part in the inaugural tournament before it is expanded to the countryside in the years to come.

World Marketing Services Limited are spearheading the organisation of the project, which will also see the participating universities get basketball equipment and have their facilities rehabilitated.

“Since Falcons are playing on Saturday evening, most of the participants will converge at YMCA to give them support after the tournament in Mukono,” Dennis Mbidde, the World Wide Marketing Limited Services managing director, said yesterday.

Having won their third championship last year, DMark Power have found their way in many fans’ hearts. They have an organised fan base while Warriors’ recent performances have also earned them sympathy support.
Falcons are now doing everything to keep pace with their opponents.
