DMark Power’s short-term objective is to emerge MTN-Fuba League regular season champions.
To achieve that, though, they must avoid losing any of their three remaining games or else the honours go to the high-riding Kyambogo Warriors. “We don’t want to finish third or second but number one,” DMark Power technical director Peter Mubanda said yesterday.
The title holders are up against six-time champions Falcons at YMCA Wandegeya tonight. Falcons are getting back to their footing; Isaac Lugudde is returning after serving a four-match suspension and the lethal Henry Malinga could play part in the encounter.
The centre player has been nursing a knee injury suffered against Ndejje Angels on September 23. “I am feeling okay at the moment. But it will depend on how I feel after today’s (yesterday) training session,” Malinga said. Sam Obol and Stephen Omony are firing on all cylinders and Falcons look very dangerous at the moment.
“For us, this is a very big game,” Malinga noted. “It’s like a rehearsal for the play-offs.” If Power lose tonight and fail to beat Warriors in the season’s final game, they will finish second in the standings, putting them in line to face third-placed Falcons in the semifinals.
Mubanda doesn’t see that happening. He said; “To beat us, Falcons must score more than 90 points. I doubt they can do that.”
Elsewhere, Knight Riders gave away a 16-point first quarter lead (32-16) to lose 62-92 to Kyambogo Warriors on Wednesday. The result ensured Riders got relegated to the Second Division along side KCC Lions, a side they face earlier today in a dead rubber. Former women champions Makerere Sparks, will meanwhile face KIU Rangers, in a game either side must win to stand a chance of finishing fourth and playing in the play-offs.
