RWANDA : Road to Madagascar

Rwanda 69-56 S.Africa
(26-18, 11-12, 21-10, 11-16)

RWANDA ended her losing streak at the 2009 Fiba Africa championship for women after yesterday’s 69-56 victory over South Africa.

A solid third quarter performance from the debutants was the turning point for the win.

Rwanda started strong taking the first set 26-18 but South Africa claimed the second set by a one-point difference to give the East Africans a nine-point half time lead.

The team did not look back as they widened their lead to 19 points after a 21-10 third quarter score. South Africa claimed the fourth quarter 16-11 but the damage had already been done.

The win means that Rwanda now have a rematch with their Group B opponents Tunisia in their second and final classification game.

The two-sides will battle this afternoon for the 9th slot.
In the quarter-finals, 2007 third place team Angola handed down a 68-36 points defeat to Mozambique to move into the last four.

Ivory Coast also progressed to the quarters after a 55-44 win over Cameroon.
