Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons’ hopes of making this year’s play-offs hang by the thread but that’s not the only dilemma in their camp.
The former two-time semi-finalists are lying eighth on the 10-team table but could sink further down into relegation should their best player Ivan Enabu get banned. Enabu, one of the most exciting stars in Uganda, engaged in an ugly physical contest with Falcons’ Sande Okot as the two teams squared off in an MTN-Fuba League game on Sunday.
Falcons won the game played at YMCA Wandegeya 83-65. According to rules governing the league, punitive action has to be taken against the two players. “We have asked both clubs to give us a written explanation of what they think caused the fracas,” Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (Fuba) assistant general secretary Joseph Manano told Daily Monitor yesterday.
Fuba has in the past two seasons acted tough on undisciplined players. “Our technical team is still investigating and by the close of business today (yesterday) we should have come up with something,” Manano said. Adding; “If any of them is found guilty, the punishment is suspension for 365 days.”
