As Islanders loses to Royal Hoopers 64-58
Nigeria Customs basketball club Monday set a record in the Atlantic conference of the DSTV Basketball League with a 64-61 points victory over Dodan Warriors basketball club in a local derby at the sports hall of the national stadium, Lagos.
The Scott Nnaji tutored border boys as the Customs team is also known entered the game with a mindset of ending it lack-luster performance in the league which has seen it being the only team without a win by picking the first quarter 20-14 points.
Warriors charged back in the second quarter with a 27-14 points win for a half-time score-line of 41-34 points but it was the more determined Customs side that carried the day in the third quarter with a 21-08 points win to open a six point lead of 55-49 points going into the last quarter.
Efforts by the Warriors players to come back into the game was thwarted by the Customs players who guided their lead jealously, though giving up three points from their six points third quarter advantage but it was okay for them to record their first win in the charged game as they ran away with a 64-61 points victory to further push down Dodan Warriors on the conference table to fifth position.
And just as Customs were recording it first win in the conference with hope of making it to the play-offs completely dashed, conference leader, Lagos Islanders tasted the bitter pile of defeat for the first time after falling to host Royal Hoopers basketball club by 64-58 points at the Civic Centre in Port Harcourt.
