Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) have suspended four players as investigations into last Sunday's ruckus during an MTN-Fuba League match between Falcons and UCU Canons continue. UCU star Ivan Enabu and Falcons' Sande Okot engaged each other physically but two more players who 'intervened' have also not been spared.
They are Isaac Lugudde (Falcons) and Adams Njoroge (UCU Canons). "We feel they shouldn't play anymore games until investigations are complete," Fuba assistant general secretary Joseph Manano said yesterday.
"The two teams delayed to give us their reports so we think the decision we have taken is the best." Referees Edward Ssendi and John Omondi who handled the match won't be left off the hook either.
"We are told there were some off-ball incidents which eluded the referees' eyes. Apparently, players exchanged insults but match officials didn't take any action. And that could have been the root cause of the fight," Fuba technical committee chairman William Musaazi said. "If the referees are punished, they will do the right thing next time. The action will also set a precedent for the rest," he added.
