The battle for fourth place in the men’s MTN-Fuba League is becoming more fascinating by the day. Two days after Kampala International University (KIU) drubbed giants Falcons 59-45, to occupy the sole remaining play-offs slot, Miracle Eagles condemned Kampala Council (KCC) Lions to an 86-72 loss to remain in contention.

With four games to complete the regular season, Miracle and KIU are now joint fourth with 21 points. It can’t get any better considering that Ndejje University Angels and Nkumba University Marines can also turn the tables and finish fourth.

At this point however, Miracle and KIU look good to make the post season.
The promising Brian Ssentongo, who crossed from Falcons in pre-season and Felix Olaba combined for 28 points while Ali Mohammed sunk in 17 as Miracle registered their seventh win of the season. Michael Opolot (17) and Chaka Jeje (11) put up some resistance for KCC Lions, but the mayor’s side is already damned to relegation. From 14 outings, they have managed only one win.

Whereas the Miracle-KCC Lions encounter was more predictable, Livingstone caused shock waves in the men’s Second Division by edging giants Vegetarian 82-80. The game of the weekend, no doubt. In the women’s sort, 2003 champions Makerere Sparks whitewashed Crane High School 102-48 to remain with in touching distance of a play-offs slot.

Last season’s league top scorer Hellen Nakijjo had a field day, garnering a game high 25 points, Carol Nyafwono contributed 20 and Lyn Nalunkuma 15 for fourth-placed Sparks. Nakimuli Diana and Barbra Jumbo were in double figures for Crane High with 19 and 12 points respectively.
