JASON Maxiell, power forward for NBA club Detroit Pistons, and former WNBA all-star Nykesha Sales yesterday conducted a basketball clinic at Uganda Christian University Mukono for 280 primary and secondary school children.
The American pair, whose two-day visit was organised by the U.S. Mission in Uganda and the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, took the exuberant kids through the basics of passing and dribbling before giving them certificates at the end.
Jason said: “It’s been great coming out here and learning about the spirit of the kids.”
His counterpart added: “The kids seemed very excited about basketball and hopefully they are going to be the ambassadors of the sport in future.”
Maxiell and Sales will put on another clinic for a fresh group of school kids and will also meet with various local basketball officials today at YMCA.
# THE KCC Lions have looked quite improved in the MTN-FUBA League second round yet that has not saved them from losing three matches in a row.
That they take on the Kyambogo Warriors today at YMCA means KCC are all but condemned to a fourth straight loss.
Last month coach Baker Mande singled out this encounter as one of the three KCC were, in all honesty, incapable of winning.
The other two were against the Mountain Dew Falcons and D’Mark Power and the Lions duly lost 81-58 and 89-54 respectively.
