Strathmore University stunned Posta 91-84 in a top premier league match at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium over the weekend.
This comes exactly a week after playing their best game of the season in which they shut our former national champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 87-81 with a virtuoso display. It was a huge effort by the students who lost the first leg to the mailmen.
Ironically it was Posta who got off to a bright start taking a 23-16 first quarter lead. The second quarter was a closely fought affair with the losers charging right back into contention despite Posta staying up with a 20-19 cushion.
But after the intermission Posta self destructed allowing David Ogolla, Paul Nyakinda and Kan Maru to cause havoc slicing in through their defense to score at will. Strathmore went up 23-16 in the third quarter and were superb in a high scoring last quarter posting a 34-25 margin.
Blades trio of Nyakinda scored 25 points Ogolla chipped in with 21 while Maru added 12 in that win celebrated by coach Tony Ochieng. For Posta it was the tireless Ben Oluoch who defied age to made the scores look respectable scoring game high 28 points while Franklin Delano netted 19.
Estabina Siuchiri scored 14 points and Rachel Makena made 13 points to lead Yana to a 72-40 drubbing of Mennonites who had a combined 14 from Everlyne Nabwire and Mary Wangari. The victors went to the breather with a 31-20 advantage and never let got the advantage in this women's match.
Sprite Storms trailed 13-26 at the break and never recovered as they were swept aside by Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) University winning 56-40 behind 18 points from Monica Odhiambo. Storms had 14 from Sylvia Ogolla.
Leaders Trailblazers beat Balozi 77-56 in the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) provincial league matches played at the Railways Club. Joshua Vuva hit 31 points that included 13 straight in the third quarter. The losers Anwar salim posted 20.
Ken Ondiek scored 25 pints to lead Emyba to a 60-45 win over Old Pirates who had 10 from Euegen Mtekhele. Baraka Xtreme beat Nairobi Deaf Kings 37-29 as peter Kimani had 10 points. NDK were pepped by Dan Kisiangani who posted 12.
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) lost 58-50 to Friends of Basketball (FOB) as on form Joseph Achega closes in on the NBA scoring title with game high 27 points for the winners while Kevin Otieno who also leads KAA in scoring hitting 20.
In the women's match former champions Predators were felled 57-49 by Safe Spaces in a game that saw Peninah Nthenya continued her scoring exploits with 30 points including her teams last 13. Veteran Dorothy Ouko notched 15 for the losers.
