If it were possible to erase Monday August 16, 2010 from the calendar, Ugandan teams at the ongoing Fiba Africa Zone V Club Championships would gladly take the bate. The day started with Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) beating KCC Leopards 58-50 in the women’s competition and ended with Miracle Eagles losing 75-81 to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in Bujumbura, Burundi. In between, Urnani (Burundi) got a huge 81-61 victory over Kyambogo Warriors, APR (Rwanda) decimated UCU Canons 67-27 just before UYesterday’s rest day came at an opportune time for UCU as they recuperate for their game against champions Co-operative Bank (Kenya) this afternoon. “That was a typical off-day for us. There was a lot of disorganisation in offense and lacked energy in defence,” Ivan Enabu, the UCU skipper, said in his postmortem. Having won their opening game against New Stars (Burundi) after a boardroom hearing, UCU retain a chance of progressing from pool B. Coach Gad Eteu is glad that his Warriors’ team finally earns a rest after playing for three games in just 72 hours. Thereafter, Eteu faces a familiar foe in Miracle tomorrow though both sides’ chances of advancing from pool A are very slim. Miracle’s faltering hopes now meet another hurdle against Rwanda’s CSK Marines in pool A. It’s been a steep learning curve for Brian Rugyendo, the Miracle coach.
CU Lady Canons restored some pride in their narrow 54-56 loss to home side Ngozi.
