So often, players make lots of sacrifices to their natural game in trying to reach the ultimate target – winning. In those moments, any mistakes can turn out to fatal but even with such stakes, many retain their flair and smile.
Now, flair and smile are guaranteed this afternoon at YMCA court, Wandegeya as the annual Spite All-Star weekend alleviates the pressure of playing structured basketball. And the wait is worth it as three week postponement due to over lack of sponsorship and last month’s bomb attacks has come to pass for the best players in the MTN-Fuba League to showcase skill, finesse and dexterity.
Players, in both the men’s and women’s division, have been grouped into two teams, A and B. A takes the bulk of stars from Falcons, Nkumba Marines, KIU Titans and UCU Canons whereas the latter is a collection of DMark Power, Kyambogo Warriors and Miracle Eagles.
Warriors’ coach Gad Eteu takes charge of team A with Falcons forward Richard Osano Omondi, MVP of the Zone V Club Championships, plus teammates Sudi Ulanga and Cedric Buzangu as the main stars.
UCU Canons’ Ivan Enabu and Nkumba’s Philip Wakimwero complete the cast to face-off with coach Timothy Odeke’s team B.
Power’s trio of Norman Blick, slum-dunk champion Joseph Ikong and Ben Komaketch along with Warriors’ Ronnie Kasewu, the reigning MVP, Makmot Orom and Miracle’s Brian Ssentogo complete Odeke’s log.
In the women’s game, A1 Challenge, KCC Leopards, Makerere Sparks and Magic Stormers team up to face UCU Lady Canons, KIU Rangers and Nabisunsa. In addition, there will be a dunking contest, blind-fold shots, 3-point shooting contest and centre shots for which winner will receive cash prizes.
