Steven Omony watched helplessly from the Miracle Eagles’ bench as his new team went down 67-90 to a ruthless DMark Power at YMCA court on Sunday evening. Despite being unveiled by Miracle on Saturday, Omony could not get his clearance from Mountain Dew Falcons, his former side, in time for the game.

The acquisition of the former MVP is a step in trying to propel the Rubaga-based side to the playoffs for the first time but the manner of defeat provided numerous questions. After a relatively dazzling start, coach Brian Rugyendo had no answers to Power’s superior rebounding and quick transitions. Brian Ssentogo’s 20 points were futile.

First quarter
Miracle, with many neutrals backing them, edged the first quarter 19-16 before Isaac Lugudde (16), Emmanuel Enabu (13) and Joseph Ikong (13) ran the show. Power cruised 31-21, 20-13 and 23-14 in the final three periods respectively.

Norman Blick (9), Ben Komaketch (8), fit-again Isaac Afidra (6) could even afford a quiet evening as Robert Mubiru took a break to prepare for his wedding this weekend. “Feels good to be playing again and the points I got are just the start,” Afidra noted after Power assumed sole leadership of the log with 23 points, two more than UCU Canons and Falcons. In the early encounter, Nkumba Marines gave their slim playoff hopes a minor boost with an 83-72 victory over Knight Riders.
