Following a thrilling end to A-1 Challenge’s unbeaten start to the season as they lost 55-49 to champions KCC Leopards, the stage was perfectly set for Warriors-Falcons.
In many aspects, the latter lived up to its billing until Mike Buzangu missed two free throws with four seconds as his Mountain Dew Falcons lost 76-78.
After Buzangu’s misses, the six-time champions desperately stole the rebound but Warriors defended for the buzzer to sound. Full time was done though the umpires, having not heard it due to the deafening noise, let play continue much to the dismay of Warriors coach Gad Eteu .
He ran onto the court with several fans joining in protest, forcing a stoppage and eventually the curtain call. It was nervy finish as Falcons, who led by six points with less than two minutes left, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
Omondi top
Buzangu (15) had come off the bench at halftime to offer support to a blazing Richard Osano Omondi as the latter sunk a game-high 26 points. “Mistakes cost us but you can afford those now provided we can rectify them in time for the playoffs,” Omondi said.
Abdulah Ramadhani (16), MVP Ronnie Kasewu (15) and Steven Okias ensured that Warriors started the second round with a desired result. Earlier, Carol Nyafono’s 13 ppoints lifted KCC over A1, who had unfit Elizabeth Baziira and Olivia Mulwama returning after lengthy marital absences.
