Miracle Eagles’ plan to dominate basketball in years to come faces an early examination against Kenya’s KCB Lions today at the FIBA Africa Zone V Club Championships in Bujumbura, Burundi. Yet to reach the play-offs in the local MTN-Fuba League, Miracle only made the bus journey yesterday following DMark Power’s failure to travel due to financial constraints. Coach Brian Rugyendo is quietly optimistic about how far his team will go in the region’s biggest basketball showpiece.
“This is a very important tournament for the team’s learning process. It’s also an opportunity to play hard and win some games,” Rugyendo told Daily Monitor yesterday. Having signed Stephen Omony just three weeks ago, Rugyendo wants the star to bond with his new teammates if Miracle is to turn promise into reality. Elsewhere, last year’s finalists Kyambogo Warriors face the wrath of the home crowd against Urnani in pool B whereas UCU Canons draw their guns on giants APR (Rwanda).
