KENYA : Co-op Bank post back to back wins to top premier league

Co-operative Bank of Kenya moved to the top of the Premier League with a close 65-61 win at the KCB Sports Club Ruaraka.

It was Bobby Okwako who hit the game opener as the former champions took a 40-27 margin into the break. The second half saw the students come back strongly with Arou Chan a constant menace to the bankers.

With a few minutes to go, Chan brought USIU back into contention narrowing the scores to 61-62 but Allan Ouma free shot gave Co-op the edge as the match moved from one end to the other. The win moves Co-op up with 21 points from 11 games ahead of reigning champions KCB Lions and International Christian Center (ICC) who have 19.

The previous day saw Co-operative Bank of Kenya beat University of Nairobi 68-56. Kiganya provided 13 points while defensive ace Salim Ali added 11. The campus lads were propelled by Ken Kithinji who collected game high 18, while Bill Oyomba scored 14.

Strathmore University "Blades" cut bottom side Lomboritz in a game that saw David Ogolla manage 26 points while Arthur Ameso netted 15. Lomboritz, who have yet to win a league game in four months, had 13 from Kevin Sunguti and 12 from Rogers Ombati.

Masinde Muliro University of Agriculture and Technology (MMUST) continued their hot form at home when they whipped the visiting Blazers 86-68 in a match played at the Kakamega Police Canteen.

Strathmore University ladies side destroyed Kenya Polytechnic University winning 59-32 as Faith Wanjiru and Faith Owich posted 19 points a piece while posing all sorts of problems for Poly who had Naomi Kirigo with 11.

USIU Flames had game high 34 points from on fire Sajda Ahmed and 17 from US based Sarah Chan as they dismissed Predators 88-44. Pamella Ikonga posted 19 points while Caroline Achieng shot 14 for the losers

Mennonites hit Kenya Polytechnic University 54-42. A top match pitting leaders Yana against champions Eagle Wings was called off and will be rescheduled to a latter date.
