Throughout the first round of the MTN-Fuba League, Mountain Dew Falcons looked like the team to beat. That is now disputable following Falcons’ tame 78-76 loss to Kyambogo Warriors on the opening night of the second round just two weeks ago.
Tonight at YMCA court, Wandegeya, Falcons will seek to treat that defeat as a flash in the pan when they face eternal rivals DMark Power.

With eight league titles between them, the duo are by far the two most successful clubs in Ugandan basketball but reputations won’t matter. Knowing the mental impact of that loss to Warriors, Falcons’ star Richard Osano Omondi, watered down its significance.

“It’s okay to make a mistake now and lose a game but not in the play-offs,” Omondi said defiantly. On the flipside, this collision would offer a clear contrast in styles with Falcons going for keeping structures and shape whereas Power stuck to quick transitions in the past.

However, the acquisition of guards Sudi Ulanga and Mike Buzangu has made Falcons quicker in offense without sacrificing their potency in the paint manned by Biekevenue Ngandu.

Even without a coach and forward Isaac Afidra for most this season, Power have gone about their business like surgeons with Joseph Ikong, Norman Blick and Ben Komaketch flourishing in their comfort zones.
