In a game punctuated by monster slam dunks and alley oops, it was always going to be a red carpet opera for the taller players during the Sprite All-Star gala at YMCA court, Wandegeya on Saturday night.
As Mike Buzangu, Richard Omondi, Stephen Omony, Abdullahi ‘Dulah’ Ramadhan, Joseph Ikong and Brian Ssentogo concentrated on bringing the rim down; Ivan Enabu received the loudest cheers from the fair crowd. It was a day to remember for the Enabu brothers as Jimmy joined Ivan in coach Gad Eteu’s Team A to overwhelm Team B 122-106. DMark Power’s Emmanuel, the youngest of the three, made a losing All-Star debut but it was Ivan who still ran the show. The UCU Canons point guard bamboozled ‘Dulah’ on several occasions in the first two periods and made no-look passes a habit.
In addition, he set up brilliant alley oops for the Falcons duo of Omondi and Buzangu plus Miracle Eagles’ Omony to snatch the MVP award. “It was great fun doing what we love to do with no problem sharing the responsibility as stars because we shone as one star in the end,” coach Eteu told Daily Monitor.
Coach Timothy Odeke was left helpless as Norman Blick missed the game whereas Ikong came late after attending the wedding of Power teammate Robert Mubiru. Team B’s biggest undoing was falling behind early, trailing 15-28 in the first quarter. They never recovered as Miracle’s Ssentogo led the squandering of chances while Ronnie Kasewu (Warriors) spent a lot of time on the bench. In the women’s All-Star game, Betty Namukasa’s 19 points led Queens’ onslaught in a thrilling 67-60 win over Curves
