Results – Friday
UCU Canons 91-79 Warriors
Falcons 110-90 Marines
Women: A-1 54-52 UCU
UCU’s sides suffered mixed emotions on Friday night in the MTN-Fuba League as the women lost in a heart-stopping fashion whereas their male counterparts produced what could perhaps be the best performance this season.
A-1 Challenge’s Josephine Namayega (11) sunk nerve-wrecking a three-pointer with eight seconds left on the clock to edge UCU Lady Canons 54-52. Lorraine Akinyi replied with a game-high 17 points for the latter but the game was dominated by A1’s defensive unit.
A-1 remain the only side in the women’s division with an unblemished record as UCU squandered theirs at a packed YMCA court, Wandegeya.
Later, the crestfallen women’s side cheered relentlessly as UCU Canons grabbed a deserved 91-79 victory over champions Kyambogo Warriors. It was a complete team performance from UCU to hold on to their unbeaten start to the season as Warriors stuttered to their second defeat.
The Enabu brothers, Jimmy (21) and Ivan (11), combined for 33 points. Robert Mugabe didn’t not only shut out Abdullah Ramadhan but also scored 20 points while Steven Mwesigye had 12.
“I think we had a little point guard situation,” Warriors coach Gad Eteu said.
