NIGERIA : DStv PL - How Yelwa pick first win

When everything seems to going the wrong way for Savannah conference strong team, Yelwa Hawks basketball club of Bauchi after three straight lose in the 2009/ 2010 Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) DStv Premier League, the team coached by former Gboko Heat and Bauchi Nets forward Oche Omuh roared back to life when they confronted Plateau Peaks basketball club of Jos in a Game-13 of the Savannah conference of the league at the refurbished National Sports Commission gymnasium, Bauchi.

The game which was beamed live on SuperSport-10 by the television aim of the sponsor (MultiChoice Nigeria) dunked off about 20 minutes behind schedule due to some logistics with the Jeffery Lohor inspired Hawks taking the first quarter by 15-13 points.

The Peaks whose captain, Victor Zameh fouled out of the game in the third quarter launched a forensic offense on the home side in the second quarter with an 18-13 points win to gain a 31-28 points lead going into the break.

Determined to break the jinx of its losing streak Yelwa came into the second stanza beginning from the third quarter which ended 19-12 points to enter the last quarter with a 4-point advantage over the more experience Peaks.

Lohor who is determine to see his side (Yelwa Hawks) pick its first win of the season raised his game when the Peaks players raided his side (Yelwa) offense with Peaks tying the game at 50 points apiece with less than two minutes left Lohor rose to the challenges shooting 3-on-3 from the three points arch to take his side points to 60-50 with 50 seconds left in the game as Peaks launched another attack gaining seven points in the process to end the game at 60-57 points in favour of Yelwa Hawks.

Lohor one time national team invitee poured in 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals while his teammate Celestine Nwafor grabbed 13 rebounds scoring 8 points to help the Yelwa Hawks to a hard earned victory.
