Liberia have got another opportunity to host a FIBA preliminary competition.
The country was given the green light to stage the preliminary round of the female qualifier by the African basketball governing body.
The news comes a little over a week after Liberia hosted the FIBA Africa Zone III male and female Championships.
According to the Secretary General of the Liberia Basketball Federation, the event will be held in the senior category.
Mr. Fred Pratt described the news as a boost for the country and said it signals FIBA Africa satisfaction with the standard of the game in Liberia.
“This is to show that we are trying to put Liberian basketball on the map of Africa and it’s a good boost for us,”.
“It was suppressing to me because we just hosted a tournament a week ago and FIBA is asking us to host another,” noted Mr. Pratt.
He did not however disclose the calendar for the showpiece and said modalities were still being worked out on the possibility of the country hosting the tournament.
