National basketball league champions Kenya Commercial Bank Lions and Eagle Wings registered convincing victories in their first leg matches at the Nairobi’s National Stadium on Sunday.
KCB Lions rode on 20 points from Tobias Onyango to claw Tigers of the United States International University 85-46 while Caroline ‘’Majeng’ Achieng scored 27 points to help women’s champions Eagle Wings keep their unbeaten record intact with a huge 108-18 win over weak Kenya Polytechnic.
In other matches at the same venue, International Christian Centre beatKenya College of Accontancy-University 85-49 while Flames of USIU-A trashed KCA-U 60 -29 in a women’s league contest.
Parklands Baptist were 72-35 winners over Africa Nazarene University while Mennonites overcame Kenya Polytechnic 49-44. University of Nairobi Terrorists beat Blazers 62 - 61. Ulinzi Warriors romped to a 104-34 win over African Nazarene University.
KCB Lions ambushed the Tigers with Onyango and Victor Onyango hitting the target as the bankers led 17-9 in the first quarter. What was expected to be big showdown turned out to be a one-sided affair as Lions roared strongly to remain up 34-21 at half-time.
Fitted well
Lions coach Francis Ngunjiri played several of his new players led by Zaddock Odhiambo who fitted well in the team. Victor Ochieng scored 11 points, Odhiambo added 14 for Lions while Evans Leting shot 11, Chris Mulumba had 12 and Pappillion Odhiambo sunk 10 for the losers.
Caroline ‘Majeng’ Achieng hit game-high 27 while Angela Okoth added 22 points as Wings got a huge 108-18 win over Kenya Polytechnic.
