William Musaazi, the Fuba technical committee chairman, said considering talks between the federation and clubs, the league which was meant to start this weekend has been pushed forward. “Last week’s pre-season tournament took its toll and now clubs are complaining of injuries and fatigue yet we need to see a competitive league,” Musaazi reveals.
Universities form a quarter of the teams in the league with KIU, UCU, Ndejje and Nkumba. “In the past, we had these teams complain about their players being on holiday and doing exams. But we shall consider their reasoning now to enhance competition. The league will start on April 16,” Musaazi said.
Elsewhere, Warriors coach Gad Eteu is not ready to feed from the same gourd like rivals DMark Power.
Power failed to defend their 2008 league crown, losing to Warriors 4-1 in a thrilling best-of-seven final. Eteu wants his team to do what their predecessors failed to achieve. “During the Sprite event, you would see that we are yet to gel as a team but I am hopeful that we shall improve,” Eteu explains.
Just like Power one year ago, Warriors have reinforced heavily with the acquisition of the Malinga brothers, Eric and Henry from Falcons in addition to Pascal Alule from KIU. “We’re going to switch their positions with Henry being deployed in a more central position (power forward). Eric will continue to play as a small forward,” notes Eteu.
