Jeshi Stars and Savio were yesterday crowned National Basketball League (NBL) champions after winning their epic final matches at the National Indoor Stadium.
Savio posted a comfortable 63-54 win over JKT in the men’s final encounter at the same venue.
Jeshi Stars defeated Don Bosco Lioness 89-52 to claim the National Basketball League (NBL) title in a thrilling final held at the National Indoor Stadium.
Led by pointers Lucy Augustino and Faraja Malaki, Jeshi were 40-19 ahead at the end of the first half.
Jeshi Stars added 20 more points in the third quarter compared to 13 points garnered by DB Lioness.
The final quarter ended their onslaught with a convincing 29- 20 score to climax their superb show.
Jeshi Stars captain Lucy Augustino was the match’s top scorer with 19 points followed by her team mate Faraja Malaki who penned 12 points.
DB Lioness’ Jasmine Bablia and Sajda Ahmed put up incredible show in the match, but their team mates let them down.
Bablia however, managed to post 18 points while Ahmed managed to slot 15 points.
On their way to the final Jeshi Stars also defeated Police Dar es Salaam 98-32 and a day before they had posted an impressive 63-52 win over DB Lioness at the same venue.
Oilers beat Mzinga 52-45 to claim the third slot.
In the men’s encounter Savio who looked likely to win the encounter from the start handed JKT their second defeat to win their second title.
They are also RBA champions after beating JKT at the same venue two months ago.
Savio began the match with a high note to lead 27-12 in the first quarter before JKT narrowed the gap with 32-27 at the first half.
They added 31 more points in the second half while restricting JKT to 27 point gain at the period.
