TO crown off the 16th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, the local basketball federation (Ferwaba) has organized a two-day memorial tournament.
According to the federation’s Secretary General Jean Lucien Mugabo, the event scheduled for April 24-25 is open to all top division clubs.
“We thought it was a good idea as a federation to organize a small tournament in memory of our loved ones,” the official said.
The event will be hosted at Amahoro indoor stadium.
Meanwhile, the famous Gisembe memorial tournament has been scheduled for June.
The annual event played in memory of Espoir players, fans and well wishers who died during the genocide will be spiced up by foreign clubs from Uganda, Burundi and the DRC.
“We want to give the tournament a more regional look this time round so that is why we intend to invite clubs from neighbouring countries,” Espoir’s president Pierre Munyengabe said.
Since 1994, April has always been a low key sporting month.
