The sixth edition of the Falcons Invitational basketball tournament will attract 13 teams, 12 from Africa and one from Europe, according to organisers.
Teams from DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Seychelles, Kenya, Senegal, Angola, Nigeria, Egypt, Zambia and Ethiopia have been notified.
During a media launch at Lugogo Sports Complex, the venue of the August 23-29 tournament, Falcons basketball club revealed that they had sent out invitations to the federations of Spain, Italy, Greece, France and Sweden.
“This is a new chapter in Falcons history as the club turns 12. Right now, we are doing events starting next month to get the Shs150m needed to run the entire event,” Falcons publicist Dennis Mbidde told the media yesterday.
Uganda will be represented by Mountain Dew Falcons, UCU Canons, Nkumba Marines, Kyambogo Warriors and DMark Power in the men’s division. Women’s sides include Lady Bucks, A1 Challenge, Makerere Sparks and Amazon Rhino.
Elsewhere, the return of coach Andrew Baziira galvanized DMark Power to recover last week’s loss to UCU Canons as the 2008 champions decimated Knight Riders 104-80 in the MTN Fuba league men’s division I on Wednesday night.
Ben Komaketch (14) led Power’s onslaught as the returning Norman Blick only managed seven.
Sande Okot sunk 21 points as UCU’s brilliant start continued with a 106-54 demolition of newly-promoted Berkeley.
