THE future does not look bright for the KIU Titans. The MTN-FUBA men’s top-flight side lost their two best players on the eve of the season, and were brushed aside by the Nkumba Marines in ominous fashion last Friday.

But KIU coach Nimrod Kaboha is not worried. He has seen it all before.

“I have lost my best players before,” Kaboha said calmly. “This always happens especially with university teams. Players are always leaving.”

KIU were among the contenders for the championship ahead of the season but all that changed when their star duo of Makmot Orom and Michael Kariuki joined the Kyambogo Warriors without warning. The transfers caught KIU by surprise.

“The Warriors were not straight in signing them,” lamented Kaboha. “If they had told us we would have replaced them.”
Even then, Kaboha is not about to panic. “I am not worried about anything. This is a long season and we are just at the beginning of the league.”

As for KIU’s league encounter with St. Michael tonight, Kaboha’s strategy is the same as always.

He revealed: “I will approach this game the same old way I approach every game. We are taking it one game at a time.”
