Basketball Dar es Salaam (BD) officials meet tomorrow to discuss guidelines of the general election slated for May 15.
Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, the BD managing director, Mbaga Mwamboma, said the meeting would involve 16 active members.
According to him, the members, who also hold exclusive rights to elect new leaders, come from Dar es Salaam’s giant basketball clubs.
“Our term expired on March 31, so we’ve to hold the election as soon as possible to give other members their constitutional right to lead the BD,” he said.
Mwamboma added: “We’ve 22 members, but so far only 16 are active, thus they’re the ones who will elect the leaders of their choice.”
The official disclosed that all members aspiring to contest any position would have to pay Sh20,000 for nomination forms.
The outgoing director said the forms were available at various outlets including Malai Freight Forwarders at Samora Avenue.
“We want the best leaders who can help uplift basketball in the region, therefore it’s down to the members to make wise decisions,” he noted.
Simon Msofe is the incumbent president of the association who came to power in 2006.
