Old Pirates produced a virtuoso performance to beat Balozi 57-28 in a Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) league clash at Railways Club over the weekend.
The Pirates, who have now won their four games so far this season, got off to a quick start after Joseph Nyaga hit three consecutive three-pointers on their way to taking a 35-15 halftime lead.
Eugene Mutekhele, Aron Abuya, Mwazhige Mshila and Mathew Ngungu then used of some impenetrable defense to close the door on Balozi.
Abuya and Mutekhele had 10 points each for Old Pirates. David Wainaina also finished with 10 to pace Balozi.
Meanwhile, Don Bosco managed a closely fought 38-33 win over Neosasa Morans. Steve Sassi led the side with 15 points and Ben Bindar added 14. Moran's Robert Juma had a game-high 18.
Little Prince survived a scare before nipping Madison 51-43 after overtime. The score was tied at 40 all at the end of regulation and, with Victor Okoth (12 points) and Robin Peter (10) leading the way, Little Prince accounted for 11 of the 14 points scored in the extra session to win rather comfortably in the end. Peter Theuri had a dozen for Madison.
In other results, Legacy crushed Nairobi Deaf Kings 73-38 behind some balanced scoring. Daniel Odhiiambo had a game-high 17 points and Kelvin Mutai added 12. Baraka Xtreme beat Sauna 45-31 as Peter Kimani scored 15 points.
In the women's only tie, Co-operative Bank of Kenya thumped Deak Queens 72-12 as Irene Wafula led all scorers with 29 points. Mary Akinyi added 16 and Serah Wetagwa chipped in with 15 in the rout.
